Uttarakhand’s Valley of Flowers

It was 1931, when 3 British mountaineers lost their way and lucked upon this spectacular sight. Mesmerised by the sight they named it the “valley of flowers”

Situated in the western part of the himalayan region, cuddled in between the Nanda biosphere lies the flowery meadows of Uttarakhand named the Valley of flowers. “phoolon ki ghati” as it is called, lies in the Chamoli district, soaring to the skies, 3658 metres above sea level.

The valley is home to the rarest of flowers like the himalayan marsh orchids, the himalayan slipper orchid, brahma kamal but that’s not it. You can also spot the birds such as the Himalayan snowcock, snow partridge, the Himalayan monal, which is literally the icing on the cake. 

Recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site, the nest of flowers surrounded by tall mountains and clouds, the valley of flowers is a must see tourist spot for adventurers, enthusiasts, photographers, tourists , every human being in general. 

 

Kaas Plateau, Maharashtra

The Kaas Plateau also known as “kaas pathar” is situated 25 kms west from Satara, a city in Maharashtra. The plateau with its head raised to 1200 metres houses about 850 different species of flowers including flowers like orchids, shrubs like karvy and carnivorous plants like Drosera Indica. 

Monsoon season, (August to October) when the stunning wildflower blooms, and paints the whole landscape in purple, pink, and yellow would be the perfect time to visit this place. 

The Valley is a perfect tourist spot. The seated sight of the flowers, the occasional flight of the birds, the wind carrying the scent of the earth makes Kaas plateau a perfect getaway spot.

 

Mughal Garden, Kashmir

Dzukou Valley, Nagaland

Castled in between two states of Nagaland and Manipur is Dzukou Valley known for lush green meadows and rich flora.

Rhododendrons, aconitums, rare Dzukou white and pink lilies, and euphorbias, natural rock formations and streams cascading down the valley are all the things you can capture atop the Japfu peak

Munnar Valley, Kerala

Way down south in God’s own country – kerala-  is the Munnar valley. The floral wonder is a soul captivating sight.  Munnar Valley, births Neelakurinji, a wildflower which grows only in the Western Ghats. This lavender coloured wildflower takes its time to pollinate and blooms only once in 12 years making this place unique and eager to visit. During the blooms, the entire valley is coloured purple. Like a mother nurturing its child, the mountains nurtures this special flower until its bloom calms the souls of the beholder. 

 

Flower Valley, Gulmarg

The meadows of Gulmarg are charismatic and demand’s attention. Over the years the valley has seen many film shootings that took place. The valley is in full bloom from June to September with  fiery orange poppies, purple lupines, and white daisies leaning back and forth to the occasional wind.
