Tour Plan
Start your trip from Kathmandu today as you arrive at Kathmandu international airport. Upon arrival the representative of Max Holidays will greet you outside the airport and will provide you transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. Rest of the time is free. Dinner and night stay will be at the hotel.
At around 08.00 am the temple visit will start. We will try to reach Pashupatinath Temple before 09.00am to attend aarti in the main temple. Also visit many small and big temples in the complex. After visiting Pashupatinath Temple visit the ‘Sleeping Vishnu’ Temple (Jal Narayan Temple) and Guheshwari Mata Temple. After visiting temples, drive back to your hotel and spend time in preparing for the next day travel to Nepal-China border. If you want to buy some stuff for your trip you may pay a visit to the popular market of Thamel. Here you may get almost every item related to trekking and adventure activities. In the evening, we will have short briefing program followed by introduction of all group members. Overnight stay and dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast, the group will drive to Syabru Besi (2380m) in a bus. The drive to Syabru Besi is not long in distance but the bad road conditions and traffic can make it much tiring, uncomfortable and time taking. Estimated driving time is around 07 - 08 hours to cover the distance of 148kms. Upon reaching Syabru Besi, stay will be organized in a lodge. Dinner and stay at Syabru Besi.
Today, the group will enter China, and border immigration formalities may take time. An early wake-up and breakfast may be announced to avoid the rush. We drive 15 km (about 1 hour) to the Nepalese border at Rasuwagadhi (1,850m), cross on foot, and transfer to a Chinese bus for a 110 km journey to Kyirong (2,700m). Tibetan-guided vehicles ensure a smooth ride, while Nepalese Sherpas manage luggage and supplies. Upon arrival, check into the guesthouse, enjoy tea or coffee with snacks, and explore the surroundings. Dinner will be served between 7-8 PM. Stay overnight in a dormitory-style guesthouse.
This day is reserved for acclimatization in Tibet’s tough climatic conditions. Our tour manager will assist you for a short hike in and around Keyrong for warming up your body to adjust with Tibet’s high altitude. Also, you can enjoy the day with chanting Bhajan or Katha in the guesthouse. (Note - If situation permits, the guides may take the group to Saga today for night stay)
Enjoy a scenic drive through mountain terrain and Tibetan plains on the way to Saga. Cross the Yarlung Zangpo (Brahmaputra River) before heading north to the charming town of Saga (4,640m). This Tibetan town offers comfortable guesthouses, local restaurants, and markets to explore while acclimatizing. Meals and an overnight stay will be in Saga.
Today is a significant day as you reach the sacred Lake Mansarovar and get your first glimpse of Mount Kailash. The journey begins early at 7:00 AM, with several checkpoints along the way, making it a long but scenic drive. After stopping at Mayumla Pass (4,900m) for clearance, continue to Lake Mansarovar for the first darshan of Mount Kailash. Upon arrival, check into a guesthouse for dinner and an overnight stay.
Early in the morning, visit Lake Mansarovar for a holy bath, puja, hawan, and other rituals. The lake looks breathtaking at sunrise, with Mount Kailash in the background. As per Tibetan regulations, bathing inside the lake is prohibited, so our Sherpas will provide water in a bucket for you. After prayers, the group will drive to Darchen, passing Rakshasa Taal and Chiu Gompa, completing 70% of the lake’s parikrama. The remaining part will be done after the Mount Kailash kora. Upon arrival in Darchen, check into the hotel, relax, and prepare for the next day’s kora. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
After an early breakfast, we head to Tarboche, stopping at Yama Dwar before starting the 13 km trek to Dirapuk. Horses and porters can be hired but are subject to local availability. The trek is moderate but challenging due to high altitude. A short tea break is taken en route. Upon reaching Dirapuk, enjoy stunning views of Mount Kailash before checking into the guesthouse. Due to freezing temperatures, we’ll have a quick, light dinner before resting for the night.
Wake up before dawn to witness the stunning ‘Golden Kailash’ at sunrise. After a light breakfast, fill your flask with hot water, carry snacks, and begin the toughest trek of the journey. The trail ascends steeply to Dolma-La Pass (5,630m) before descending to Gauri Kunda. At Shiva Tsal, pilgrims leave an offering symbolizing letting go of past life burdens. The total trek covers 19 km, ending at Zuthulphuk Gompa for an overnight stay.
On the final day of the Mount Kailash trek, start with a light breakfast before trekking 6 km downhill to the pickup point. Vehicles will transfer the group to Darchen, where other members reunite. After a short break, drive to Saga, completing the remaining 30% of the Lake Mansarovar parikrama by vehicle. Relax and stay overnight at a guesthouse in Saga.
After breakfast we begin our journey towards Keyrung. We cross the bridge over beautiful Brahmaputra River and continue our journey across the vast open Tibetan plains. The journey offers stunning Himalayan views, particularly of Shishapangma and the Pieko-Tso Lake. Driving on well-pitched roads and mountainous terrain we reach Keyrung for night
stay.
After breakfast, drive to the Keyrong border, walk to Nepalese immigration at Rasuwagadi, and complete entry formalities. Transfer to a vehicle on the Nepal side and drive to Kathmandu (7-8 hours, depending on road conditions). Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Intime you will be transferred to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International airport to board your flight back to your hotel/next destination
